Ada Smith

Ada has been with us since the beginning, mentoring at both the ‘21 and ‘22 Colorado camps. She brings a wealth of wisdom on our relationships to food and land, agriculture, ranching; all brought together with a warmth and empathy that bridges divides.

Ada Smith, Ph.D., earned her doctorate at the University of Montana where she focused on agrarian values, climate adaptation, and elevating women’s roles and voices in agriculture in Montana. She earned her B.A. in Anthropology and Environmental Studies at Wellesley College and her M.A. in Resources, Environment and Sustainability at the University of British Columbia. Growing up on a small farmstead in rural Wisconsin and summers on her grandparents’ ranch in Montana was formative in developing Ada’s interest in food systems that connect and sustain people and places.
