Austin is a National Geographic Explorer whose work has been featured by HBO, Hulu, Apple TV, The New York Times, National Geographic, The Washington Post, The Atlantic, and PBS, among others. He has worked with organizations such as The North Face, Stanford University, and the United Nations. Meyer graduated from Stanford University with a B.A. in creative writing and an M.A. in journalism. His work often examines the interconnectedness of humans, animals, and our planet. He is an animal rights advocate who has been a featured speaker at the Animal & Vegan Advocacy Summit, and he works as a creative consultant for animal rights organizations around the world. Meyer’s self-defined purpose is to tell stories and create learning experiences that change the way people walk through the world by inspiring curiosity, wonder, and empathy.

Since attending Footprints in the fall of 2022, I have continued to document stories about the interconnectedness of animal, human, and environmental health. I have documented stories of farm animals, both on sanctuaries and on CAFOS (concentrated animal feeding operations), and I have documented animals in the wild such as mountain gorillas in Rwanda. All of these experiences have helped me generate visuals and stories for this presentation. I currently have two presentations on the calendar in 2023, but I would love to connect with more schools, groups, and organizations who are interested in hosting this type of presentation. If this interests you, or you are also passionate about educating people about how our treatment of animals impacts human and environmental health, please reach out! There are tons of ways we can think about using the images I am capturing in the field.

You can also see the final presentation I gave at Footprints at the video below.
